Catholics picked books that are the bible. How do we know that we picked the books to fit our religion. I'm just wondering in case this question comes to me how would I answer it. Thank you and God bless
Im a new catholic with a chronic health condition. Can you recommend any easy to read books on the value of suffering? I don't know the theology about redemptive suffering, how is my pain useful to God?
I purchased a Rosary prayer book from Father Peyton. I prayed the Sorrowful mysteries today. ***correction***The last meditation of this mystery (The dying on the cross) reads: The gate of heaven has a cross for a key. It is Jesus who forged the key.
I work at a local Catholic Charities. We do the paperwork for those in the US illgegally (or those outside the country) to gain legal status based on a relationship to a US citizen or legal permanent resident. For example, if a US citizen marries a foreigner we can assist in obtaining legal status for the wife or husband. Following the Supreme Court case, the Dept of Homeland Security moved very quickly to make such benefits available to men who "marry" men and women who "marry" women in states where laws make this arrangement legal. What is my moral responsibility if I handle such a case? By Supreme Court fiat, all federal benefits are now available to people of the same sex who are "married." This includes immigration benefits.
Today on facebook Patheos Catholic Portal posted an article titled The Sacred Sacrifice. It received a good many "Likes", including my own. And most of the comments were positive with the exception of the last, which I have cut-and-pasted here below -adding quotation marks.
"Sick! If you love Jesus why do you want to make him a victim on Calvary over and over? What kind of God would demand the continued crucifixion of his only Son. Jesus' dying destroyed death, and his rising restored life, once and for all. He did this perfectly, he does not need to keep repeating this until he gets it right. This kind of theology is an embarrassment to the Church!"
I know that in the Mass Jesus does not suffer death repeatedly to die again. I know He died once, for all. But I can't let this go by without responding, without explaining and defending the Church's teaching. I need your help.
Many thanks in advance!
I have been saving up to purchase a searchable library of Church Documents, for the purpose of researching apologetic issues. I would like to use it on both my IPad and PC. Is there such a thing, without breaking my piggie bank? Can you advise me on who to talk to about the same, if you don't know? $400 - $500.
