that one guy George (my chiro) is a hunter and a meat eater but doesn't believe in harming animals [sic].We have agreed that a quick, clean kill is better than factory farming, but, really, why? We did start to get into Biblical evidence, but decided to remain friends instead ;-)
EEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! Of all God's creatures, I must admit I hate ticks (those little legs squirming, those bloated bodies, uck)
OK, I'm calmer....I really like the product Advantix b/c it repels as well as kills ticks; that or a Preventic collar. Nothing works immediately, please read directions (and do NOT use on cats) and be careful (very) of "look-alikes" --at the risk of sounding a bit self-serving, ask your vet! In general, it takes about 24 hours for them to attach and start feasting, so if you go over your dogs with a fine-toothed comb every day, you can pretty much prevent them that way too--if you're diligent enough :-)
Snakes generally stay off the trails. They can feel you coming so hey generally get out of your way. We just have to make sure we keep our dogs on the trail when we hike around here.
Yes, yes....huskies in deserts does sound hot! My dude loves just sitting outside on a snow pile during the winter while the rest of us are inside huddled together! How hard to leave one behind :-( Do you worry about snake bites or fox tail awns? (two problems I learned about years ago in vet school that made me happy to stay up north here!)
