WARNING! Do not post to spam threads
 

We very much appreciate that members are reporting spam to the mod/admin staff. We depend on such reports to keep the spam situation under control. But we have also repeatedly asked members not to post to spam threads both here in Staff Chat and in private messages. This is because such posts, however well-intentioned, add to the mod/admin staff's burden in cleaning up the spam.

Such warnings have been ignored, and so we now must issue infractions to members who post to spam threads. We regret the necessity and wish that alternative means of getting the message across had proved successful, but this is necessary to keep the spam under control because when members post to spam threads it makes those threads more difficult to deal with. If members contribute to the spam problem, even after repeated warnings to stop, then we must move to the next step.

I'm glad to know this, too. I had no idea it caused more work. I apologize for the inconvenience that I've contributed to.

We very much want members to use the post-report icon (http://forums.catholic.com/images/bu...aki/report.gif) in the upper-right corner of each post to report the spam. Adding a post to the thread that says "Reported!" is what is unnecessary and has become burdensome.

Upper right hand corner - the white triangle rimmed with red containing an exclamation mark.

Some forum members add a post that says "Reported" under the spam post. The mods want us just to go ahead and click the little red triangle and *NOT* to add any posts under the spam post.

Someone posted a jewelry thread.Wasn't sure if that was considered spam.It did seem out of place for CAF.

Depends on what forum it's in. Most of the spam threads are "watch fill in the blank show or sporting event" with links that are filled with virsuses and offer illegal web streams.

Easy enough to follow. Since the clean up is easier this way than getting multiple reports with no extra posts, that is what I will do.

One further clarification please. When one of these guys comes on and starts spamming every forum with identical or similar ads, do we need to report all, or is just the report of a single occurance per username sufficient?

Usually you just need to report one. We normally check to see if they post more than once as we clean up.
