Nope, humans are levels about animals--other than the general "stuff" everything is made from, there is NO comparison at all.
Your analogy should have been something like: a rock cannot be an animal. Now, that would be apt.
Here is the most accurate statement:
A rock cannot be an animal, just as an animal cannot be a human. A human cannot be an animal, just as an animal cannot be a rock.
There is a defined heiarchy to nature and humans are atop that chain and cannot be anything, but humans.
