Speak to your priest about it.

I'm sure that there are instructions on line or in books on how to serve mass.

But like open heart surgery, or carpentry, the hands on apprenticeship with the priest is the only way to really learn how to serve latin mass.

There's a Handbook for Altar Servers from Veritas Press, PO Box 1704, Santa Monica, CA, 90406, copyright 1990, which is very good. Gives proununciation of the prayers and all rubrics in detail. There might be one available online somewhere.

The Ceremonies of the Roman Rite Described, by Fortescue and Oconnel describes in totality the "Roman Rite" (Extraordinary Rite as it is now being called). Since the publication of the MP- this book has been selling so fast that the price for it now is at over $200. I got a copy back in 2001 for $65. It is very rare indeed. Hopefully the publisher will begin printing it again for it is currently out of stock at many stores.

It will describe in detail everything what you and the priest would need to know.

You can also get materials from Angelus Press- and the SSPX- even though their bishops are schismatic due to their illegal ordinations- their materials on this matter can be used.

Your desire to serve with traditional latin mass is very commendable. May I suggest an excellent publication on the UK Latin Mass Society website, which has a very clear, and step by step, guide to serving the traditional latin mass - see the following link:

Yes! I train altar servers in my parish and knowing that this would come I started searching. I found a beautiful book, "Learning To Serve A Guide For Altar Boys" by Father J. Carmody, copyright 1961. It includes pronunciation and rubrics.

It is just delightful. It was fairly cheap and is available at www.booksforcatholics.com . Pax.

As one in charge of the altar boys for his TLM, I would like to second the recommendation for this book. Thanlks are due to the lady who originally gave us our first copy.

it appears there are many publications that would assist one serving at mass. if you find a copy of a sunday missal written by fr. stedman it contains virtually everything needed to know to serve at a "low mass."
this missal was used by hundreds of thousands during the 1940's , 50's and 60's. you may at times find one at your local parish rummage sale. have a good year. (alih)
