Default What's your charism?

What is drawing you to the Holy Priesthood?
For me, it's the sacrament of Reconciliation. It has been a wonderful source of comfort to me, and I feel God callling me to be a minister of that sacrament.

Also, Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is pretty cool too

That is good to hear, I was happy to celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday and appreciated the increased focus on confession. It is a very good experience that makes a person whole again, trusting in Jesus, to make up for what we are lacking. I hope it is celebrated more (universally) in the Church's future. There are a lot of good things in life, I am glad we have a Father (God/Jesus) and Mother (Church/Mary) who show us what is best! I am not sure what my charism would be, if I were called to be a priest. Confession sounds like a good one though.

For me it is that I am saying yes to God in allowing him to use me to bring the sacraments to his people. outside of parenthood what could possibly more fulfilling than that.

I am still in the discernment process, but I feel drawn to the contemplative life. I feel a need to spend my time in worship, meditation, and adoration. I realize that in a Monastery, you are part of a community and each member of the community must contribute, in some manner, to the welfare of the community as a whole. I am looking for any resources that can assist me in my discernment. May God's blessings be on all who are called to the religious life.

TNKnight,

I am with you! I also am discerning religious life. I was was wondering what orders, if any, you might be interested in. I am looking into the Trappists and the Order of St. Benedict which I find have the characteristics you spoke of. In addition to speaking with your spiritual director, you may want to visit a monastery and see what it's like. May I suggest St. Meinrad a Benedictine Monastery in Indiana.

Thanks for your suggestion. I am planning to attend a retreat at St. Bernard's Abbey in Cullman, AL which is Benedictine. I am also looking at the Trappists and am researching other possibilities coupled, of course, with prayer to understand what The Lord's plan for me might be. And peace be with you.

I am aware of that Abbey, and there is another in Conyers, GA that I am looking at as well. I could make a retreat at either location. I live outside of Chattanooga, TN.

I did not know of the One in Ga. I filled out this survey one line about 2 years ago about discerning the Priesthood and started receiving pamphlets and emails from seminaries and religious orders across the country I will have to go back through them to look and see if I got one from them.

You could say that I have a very Franciscan spirituality. St. Francis of Assisi is my Confirmation Saint and had been my patron before that, but I only recently realized how perfect of a fit he was! In particular I am attracted to the crucified Christ, and how His Passion and death reveal the depth of His love for us. It has been beautiful all that He has revealed to me of Himself through the Cross.

Though I have a Franciscan spirituality, I see myself more as a parish priest than a monk. But we'll see what God wants. More than anything I simply wish to serve Him and His people, shepherding their souls to the Father.

And just so you know, I attribute my devotion to the Eucharist to the revelations I have received at the foot of the Cross. God is faithful and true. Seek after Him alone.

I am currently hospice administrator and I am one of those "2nd career" seminarians. I thought I would step up my profession my adding a religious vocation. My "Charism" if you want to call it that, are all of the corporal mercies. I am a candidate for a diocese, so this question may not apply.

That's great to hear, D2! And yes, we are more than happy to hear about your charism for your diocese.

I would say what started my discernment was that I saw in 2nd grade that the priest is involved in every part of a person's life. I thought wow that must be cool, helping so many people.
