Hello,
I am about to start RCIA classes this fall and would like book recommendations. I have started reading the bible. I'm reading the Gospels first. Of course I've been reading lot on this site. From my library I've requested Catholicism for Dummies and The Idiots Guide to Catholicism. I noticed that there were also a few books on the history of the church. Please tell me which books and websites you found illuminating and which were just awful. Thanks! |

Hi!
I'll be starting RCIA classes Sept. 6. and I too, read any and everything I can get my hands on. What I've read so far is Why Do Catholics Do That?, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Understanding Catholicism, The Catholicism Answer Book (I'm pretty sure that's the name), and [u]What Catholics Really Believe. I refer to Catholic Answers frequently and I watch EWTN. I also refer to the main Catholic site www.catholic.org for catechism questions, saints, etc. I've heard Catholicism for Dummies is a great book for beginners God Bless!! Kathy |

I would seriously not use The Complete Idiot's Guide to Understanding Catholicism, as it is full of errors. Catholicism for Dummiesis much, much better. I would also recommend Surprised by Truth by Patrick Madrid and Rome Sweet Home by Scott and Kimberly Hahn.

I suggest the excellent courses from the Catholic Home Study Service.
You just can't go wrong with them.
