Default My Earthly Father

You are passing away
And said you saw Jesus
He reached out to you
and said "Don't worry. Everything will be alright."
I am happy for you.
I am thinking tonight about
All the times you could have reached out to me.
But you were working.
Or seeing your girlfriend.
Or calling my mother "crazy."
Tonight, with God's help,
I will let these things go
Drop them one by one
Like stones from my hands
That have held them so long.

Through work you fulfilled your calling
And I respect that.
I know you loved me in your way.
I thank God that you were my father.
I learned a lot from you about work.
And duty. And you named all the trees for us
and taught me respect for God's creation.

But there is a hole where "family"
lays in my heart. I know God will heal me.
