Re: Latin Mass making a comback
Sadly this is only one Mass per MONTH. It would be more of a comeback if it was weekly or even better daily. [Many Traditionalists dream of an SSPX,FSSP,OR ICK parish in their backyard so they could go to Daily Mass]

It's a start. In my dioceses we have NO Latin Mass, the Bishop refuses to allow it.

Re: Latin Mass making a comback
Its the same here in Detroit[are you in Detroit?]. Detroit, proper, has about 6 parishes with Sunday NO Latin Masses[about 2% of all parishes in the diocese] but no Indult Mass.

I'm in SW Missouri (Bishop Liebert), Springfield-Cape Girdeau dioceses.
Bishop Liebert won't allow the indult for 2 main reasons. He said it could cause confussion with the non-Catholics here making them think we have divisons in the Church and very few Churches are set up now to have Latin Mass, no altar rails etc. Needless to say it doesn't sit well with some....I personally feel his reasons are thin.
So if you want to go to Latin Mass here, you either go to a SSPX Chapel or you drive to St Louis, Kansas City or Tulsa.

I heard that the Bishop of Detroit is pretty liberal. I also heard that he is considering granting an indult (not because he likes the TLM, but because of a growing SSPX and Independent presence). Any truth to this?
Is Cardinal Maida your Bishop?

Amen, brother. But, in opposition to the Pope, AmBishops are reluctant to grant Christians their Rights. and so, in my area, I have to drive 90 miles one-way to an Indult Mass

Re: Latin Mass making a comback
Wonder if this is really in the works:
According to the report by Freddy Gray, "Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos. prefect of the Congregation for Clergy, told The Latin Mass, America's leading traditionalist magazine, that the Vatican was preparing to issue a 'juridical guarantee' in favor of the Tridentine rite, which was the Church's official rite from the 16th century until 1962.
"Cardinal Hoyos' remarks are a clear indication that Rome wants to embrace traditionalists by ensuring that they can attend old rite Masses if they so wish. The cardinal praised the Tridentine rite, and acknowledged the growing numbers of traditionalist Catholics, before giving cause to hope that restrictions on the old rite might be lifted....

Re: Latin Mass making a comback
A month ago it was announced that the Cardinal in Detroit granted permission for the TLM to be celebrated at two parishes on a every Sunday basis starting this fall.
As for reverence, while it is a Novus Ordo, the Assumption Grotto in Detroit has a very reverent Novus Ordo in Latin.

Re: Latin Mass making a comback
Often it begins with a monthly Mass, then weekly, then Holy Days and eventually a TLM community and parish may develop.
Thank God and your Bishop that you have a start. Remember than granting the indult is only one step - as we are finding here in the Phx Diocese, the next step is finding Priests who can celebrate the TLM - give your Bishop your thanks, get involved in the monthly Mass, try to increase attendance and then it may evolve to more.

Re: Latin Mass making a comback
Yes,Cardinal Maida is my bishop. The sedevacantists and SSPX[they are two different things the SSPX is loyal to the Pope] are growing in Detroit. The sedevacantists have three churches and the SSPX have 2. The CMRI sedevacantists are building a new school and church in Southern Metro Detroit. The Sanborn and Dolan sedevacantists have two churches and a seminary here. The SSPX has two elementary schools,a boy's only high school and two chapels. A once a month Mass will not be nothing for the Million and a half strong diocese of Detroit. That can work for a diocese of less than 100,000 Catholic but not my huge diocese. Actually there are priests for the Traditional Latin Mass. The pastor of Assumption Grotto ,Fr.Perricone, drives seventy miles to Toledo to say the Traditional Latin Mass. There are also many old priests in Detroit. So the priest problem for the Traditional Latin Mass is less of a problem in Detroit.

Re: Latin Mass making a comback
Actually another conservative Novus Ordo priest[forgot his name but he is the pastor of St.Cyril and Methodius parish,Sterling Heights] sent a report to the Cardinal about the Traditional Latin Mass. He was mentioned in the article on cruxnews.com

Sunday would be a nice day to take a drive to San Diego, have lunch, go to the beach or the zoo after Mass
