graphic thread titles in news forums
Can we have a discussion on the possibility of making an exception to the rule that a thread title must match the article title when it's graphic or disturbing?
Right now there is a thread in World News with the title of "12 year old rapes 9 year old after watching porn". And this is the not the first time graphic violence has been included in thread titles. There is also the thread title about the man that "crushed the skull of the child he wanted aborted".
I really don't need to have that image in my head and there is no avoiding these threads since recent threads show on the main forum home page, recent thread lists ect.

Re: graphic thread titles in news forums
Is it a rule that the title must match the thread article?
I agree with you. It's disturbing to me some days too. If someone was the victim of an attack or something -sometimes .... The thread titles repeatedly coming up might evoke memories that they would rather not have in their head. As you stated, with them being the titles to new or hot threads there is no way to ignore them.. Surely, there are ways to give the thread a title without it's graphic nature in entirety.
Does anyone know if this is a rule or have any thoughts or suggestions?

Yes it's a rule, it's in the sticky at the top of the News forum

Re: graphic thread titles in news forums
As much as I hate alot of the titles I would hate to stumble onto a discussion that I just did not want to read because the title was not clear enough....there have been alot about ms...bation and porn recently and I simply do not want to discuss those things on line. i understand that some people need to discuss to help them understand and for whatever reason they can not go to their priest but for some simply the discussion can be a near occasion of sin if this is their struggle.
Similarly I also think sometimes these 'shock' titles pull people in who have a 'voyeuristic' need as they would watching the news. It seems to me there are many topics of discussion that are proposed that simply have noting to do with CAF really.
Frankly I am irked with all the word games. I gave one a try because I had never done anything like that bu tthen I realised that one could 'bloat' one's membership status since it is linked to how many posts one has. So now I mistrust titles such as 'forum master' which I used to - in my innocence' think that meant something!
But what can one do other than what one already does when there is a near occasion of sin- reject it.

Re: graphic thread titles in news forums
I think it would be a good idea to have a way to warn people of graphic titles too - but it would probably be pretty complicated to come up with a system for doing so.
