Default Special forum for the sex talk?

I got together with a friend of mine recently and we somehow came to talk about Catholic Answers forum. During the conversation she mentioned that sometimes she feels wrong after coming onto here, and I admit I feel the same way. We're both young and not married, and feel that all the sex talk can get just a bit too graphic for our liking. I realize that we don't have to read it, but for me it is tempting. Usually it'll be something like "is it a sin to do this", and I'll find myself wanting to know the answer so I just keep reading. I feel like no matter which forum you go into you'll find several threads about sex. I was just thinking if there was a special forum dedicated to sex related questions it'd be a lot easier for those of us who don't want to read all about it. A little bit doesn't bother me mentioned in posts here or there, but for those threads that only talk about sex I think there must be a better place for them!

Anyone else feel this way?

No, but if it helps people from being tempted, then by all means I'm in favor of a sub-forum for issues regarding intimate relations.

I tend to agree, but for a different reason. These forums are frequented not only by adults, but also by kids under the age of 18. I don't know if there's anything in the forum rules regarding such "sex talk" posts, but I think there's a moral - and perhaps legal - responsibility to protect children from such graphic descriptions and adult topics. I know that if I were a dad, I would not want my kids to accidentally stumble upon such "sex talk" posts.

I understand what you are saying- but, as long as your an adult, I think MOST threads are edifying and useful. I mean now you know you married couples sleep naked...

Seriously, I veto a forum....I mean all I think of then is Penthouse....definately not CAF.

Maybe a flag on thread title, or an XXX ...just kidding. We're adults is what I am trying to say and I don't think healthy, moral talk about sexuality is an occasion of sin. Of course, I am a shameless married.

Yep - I definitely hear you there!

I am of two minds -

1) I can see the logic in having a subforum for "marriage / intimacy issues" similar to the "parenting" subforum just for classifying things a little better
2) "Marriage / intimacy issues" definitely fit well within the "Family Life" category. Plus, occasionally there's questions on "how to best communicate chastity to kids" or things of that nature. One thing that can help in this regard is to let the kids see through a window of how sex actually is post-marriage (i.e. a realistic picture from real people rather than one big theoretical discussion). That it IS great, but at the same time it's also not the Hollywood magical panacea.

What makes you think that putting all of the "sex talk" in one place will stop you from looking at it? Won't it just make it easier for you? All you will have to do is to go to that sub-forum and find all of it at one time.

That's what I was thinking: it's both easier to avoid and easier NOT to avoid if one is tempted.

Haha, it's hard to explain. I don't usually give in to temptation that easily, and if I'm looking for more information on those things I'll know where to find it. It's not that I always feel like I'm sinning by reading them, and sometimes I learn things that might be important later in life... much later in life.

To the person who said we're all adults, we're not. I'm 20 now, but I've been coming to the forums since I was around 15. I also know my brothers are around the forums as well. I do think these posts can be helpful sometimes, but at this point in my life I'm not married and I don't have a boyfriend and I'm really just looking for a place I can go where people don't talk about sex! And those are so hard to find. I'm starting to think the entire world is sex crazed...

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make this sub forum!! I am SO TIRED of having so many threads on homosexuality and transgenderism and all manner of perversions...I am almost ready to just walk away from CAF because of this constant hammering on homosexuality!!

Please, I beg you, please. Make a sub-forum and make it locked or something, so the younglings can't get in. Then the homosexual advocates and trans-whatevers can post all they want and the rest of us don't have to see it !!!

The ones that bother me are the "I am masturbating so much that I catch myself on fire".

I am always afraid that someone here at work will see the titles on the main page and get really odd ideas about me.

I did not realize children read/posted on CAF. Can't imagine mine doing so....

But since that's the case- sure move those posts to another age regulated area.

I'm oblivious to the notion that there is an abundance of "sex talk" on this site and therefore lack any sense of being tempted. I think having a specially designated area might lead others into temptation and/or not get their questions answered for fear of venturing into the "sex talk" section.

Why don't we want younger people seeing sex threads and forming their opinions on it based on the Catholic view, rather than based on the trash they get bombarded with at school, on tv, in the line at the grocery store, etc...?

I'm not so sure it is a great idea to hide the 'good parts' of sexuality from them so the only exposure they have is all the bad stuff...

Exactly. We WANT kids to see people thinking about sex the right way.

I disagree. The threads being posted are not educational in nature. They can be very graphic and give children wrong ideas about sex and other mature topics. The replies posted are not always kosher, despite this being a Catholic site.

This is absolutely not the way I'd want my kids learning about such topics.
