"There's simply not enough resources," rescuers say.
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/09/04/coa...cue/index.html
The gist is that rescuers say they have neither the time, manpower, or resources to save everyone out there.
Now I realize they can't save everybody, but why the heck aren't there enough men or resources in New Orleans by now?

The sick pornographic ,alleged humor the Guardian printed about Catholicism and the Christian faith had nothing to do with truth
Saying that the corrupt machine which ran New Orleans did bus lower income people to the polls to vote but did not bus them out of a danger area is true.
Have you seen the photographs?
Over 140 city buses swamped a few blocks from the SuperDome. In addition, over 100 school buses were available but not used. No one had to be in the SuperDome. They could have been bused out of the city Saturday, Sunday and even Monday after the storm passed but before the levees failed.
The man who could have ordered that post-hurricane evacuation wasn't in the city. He and his entourage fled the city before Katrina hit.
(which leads one to have some sympathy for the hundreds of cops who walked off the job. If the boss flees, why should they stay around?)
Pointing out how inept and corrupt NOLA officials are by an attempt at humor is done because nothing else seems to sink in. One can relate the facts over and over but the liberal establishment refuses to acknowledge that the first responders taxpayers have spent millions funding were derelict in their duty. All that planning, all that money was for nothing. A corrupt machine took the money and ran.
Leaving thousands to die.

It was mostly about paedophile priests, if I remember correctly. As unpleasant as it is to have to say, there has been a big problem with paedophile priests in the Catholic Church.

As is the fact that there were paedophile priests. I fail to see how one type of humour is acceptable and the other isn't (except for the fact that one is about you and your faith, and the other is about your 'political opponents').
I agree that one of the very many things to be investigated is why the evacuation wasn't done better. It is important to realise that the people left behind were mostly the very poor people who live paycheck to paycheck. They were understandably reluctant to leave the city, not least because they wouldn't have the money to stay anywhere else, and also because they would most likely be fired on the spot if they hadn't turned up to work the next day -- how are they to know there isn't going to be a next day?

'Took the money'??? What money?
Again, the fact that the evacuation wasn't done better is one of *many* things that needs to be investigated - once we have evacuated the living, treated the ill, fed the hungry, and buried the dead. Cheap partisan shots don't help anyone right now.

Uh...huh. Tell it to Paul Krugman, Frank Rich, Maureen Dowd, Tim Russert, Soledad O'Brian and other stars in the liberal media. All they've done for the last week is try to cover up for the corrupt machine which ran New Orleans by blaming the Federal government which isn't the first responder, was never supposed to be the first responder and did a pretty good job considering those who were supposed to be on the scene immediately had, for the most part, fled the city and were feeding no information to the Feds
So the game now that the truth is coming out and the distortions of the liberal media are being mocked is that we cannot critize anyone? Will that be the new DNC talking point we hear CNN, CBS, NBC and ABC repeat endlessly?

Right... so because 'liberal' people are doing it, which you think is wrong, you as a 'conservative' have to do it too? As in two wrongs making a right?

Is it *really* the right time to be mocking anyone? Especially when you were so offended by the mocking of the Catholic Church only a few weeks ago.
As I said, the fact that everyone wasn't evacuated needs to be investigated (though it still needs to be considered that a great many people really, *really* didn't want to leave the city). The fact that help took so long to get to them - for whatever reason they were still there - is nevertheless absolutely disgraceful - and *that* isn't a partisan point, almost everyone has been saying it. That is a criticism of the structures we've got in place and the fact that they haven't worked properly. Even the President has strongly acknowledged that things haven't worked properly.

Re: "There's simply not enough resources," rescuers say.
FEMA supposedly did a study last year simulating what would happen if a major hurricane hit New Orleans. Why was nothing from that study apparently adopted and implemented?
Why did the National Guard wait several days for the completion of paperwork before acting?
Why, when a storm the size of Texas was pointed at the US coast did no one apparently do anything in advance?
Why, when the Mayor ordered the levees strengthened, did no one do that?
Why is an emergency hospital closing because of red tape?
http://www.cnn.com/2005/HEALTH/09/04/
katrina.sick.redtape.ap/index.html
Why in the wealthiest nation in the world are there not enough men and resources to carry on rescue operations adequately?
I've said elesewhere that I don't care which political party or which official is at fault as long as we get the rescue and restoration work done, find and punish those responsible for this fiasco, and make sure it doesn't happen again.
But I've noticed some on this board get very up in arms if anyone dares to suggest that the Administration could possibly be to blame for any of this. Are there people who are really all that impressed with this administration? I mean, the last decent president we've had, in my opinion, was Reagan.

Re: "There's simply not enough resources," rescuers say.
Seeker, most of the questions you raised have already been addressed. Leaving the Bush bashers out, other posters seem perfectly willing to lay the blame where it belongs. There is already a thread discussing the levees. The timetable for the activation of the Natinal Guard has its own thread and has also been discussed in several other threads. The foul up with the allocation of medical resources is on FEMA and no one can defend that and I doubt that anyone will try.
What you have described as defense of the administration is in response to unfair attempts to lay all the blame on the federal government. It's been pointed out over and over that the initial response was is responsibility of local and state governments. Have you not seen it? We do have sufficient resources and we're getting them there. If you've never personally worked on disaster relief, you have no idea how much physical labor is involved in just being able to get into an affected area. I really don't understand why you have repeated the same old overly simplified charges that have already been discussed. Let's stay on topic and discuss the health care problems.

I have not read every single post of every single thread in this sub-section, but I've not heard sufficent answers to these questions in the news.

Re: "There's simply not enough resources," rescuers say.
It will get worse. The big push by the media will be to help their trial lawyer friends build cases for violations of EMTALA. The press will wait a few months as lawyers troll for plaintiffs and let the shock of the disaster lessen. But we will see a plethora of lawsuits. Been reading Medical Blogs and those in the profession are certain the serious triage they were forced to do will result in claims they violated EMTALA.
Jesse Jackson is laying the groundwork now by claiming victims of Katrina deserve the same compensation the families of those who died in 9/11 received (average payout: $1.03 million per death).

Seeker, Geezerbob is trying to point out to you that sufficient information does exist in the news. But you have to really be out there on the net digging to get the news.
If a soul is only listening to one or two tv channels and reading his or her favourite newspaper, a lot of stuff is going to be overlooked.
On the forum, there have been people who have gone and done that research and posted links to all sorts of news stories, legislation, timetables, and so on.
If you have not heard sufficient answers to these questions in the news -- your words -- then please give the threads here more than a cursory read.
