Default Are guardian angels scripture-based?

I'm just curious as to where the concept of guardian angels came from. I'm converting to Catholicism and am wondering where the church stands on the matter. Are they widely accepted? Does every believer have one? Does scripture itself speak of personal angels? I had a nightmare when I was around 10, woke up to go to my parents room, and discovered that the house was on fire. The family managed to escape (house was done for) and my mother always told me that my guardian angel sent me the dream to save us. I've always been a bit skeptical, but would like the opinions of the more knowledgable. Thanks so much!

Matthew 18: 10 “See that you do not despise one of these little ones,* for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.

Peace

Just for reference:

Catechism of the Catholic Church #335:

In her liturgy, the Church joins with the angels to adore the thrice-holy God. She invokes their assistance (in the funeral liturgy's In Paradisum deducant te angeli. . .["May the angels lead you into Paradise. . ."]). Moreover, in the "Cherubic Hymn" of the Byzantine Liturgy, she celebrates the memory of certain angels more particularly (St. Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Raphael, and the guardian angels).

Exodus 20:20-23 is usually cited for the existence of guardian angels, but the Lord speaks of a specific angel there.

Angels are discussed in the Catechism beginning with 328: http://old.usccb.org/catechism/text/...t1art1p5.shtml

Be sure to look at the footnotes since they give the scripture references for the various statements.

I think it is in either Book of 2 Macabees or the Book of Tobit,
