Default Can I eat meat on Friday if I abstain another day?

My husband (non-Catholic) and I were invited to dinner by his customers to thank him for the good job he did for them. I set up the date before remembering that it would be a Lenten Friday.
The problem is that it is a verry expensive STEAK restaurant. Will it be a sin to choose to eat some meat with the plan to abstain on a different day?
We are going tomorrow night...Help! I don't want to commit a sin.

Hi,

No, the Lord died on a Friday. It is on Fridays that we MUST abstain. But what a great opportunity to give witness to the centrality of the Lord's passion in your life! Abstaing from steak on that day is the least we can do in the face of all that He endured on our behalf!

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.
