Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Yo, my bros and sises in Christ, what does everyone think of this movie? I have to confess, I laugh a lot when I see it. But me being Catholic and all, should I be watching this movie?

It's been a while since I've seen that movie. I saw some other Monty Python movies, but those were a while back when I wasn't really aware that what I was watching was sinful. I suggest staying away from the Monty Python productions, even though they are quite funny.

To tell you the truth, someone was telling me earlier about one of the screenwriters for Monty Python productions and how that person became a devout Christian. Maybe it was another production. Does anyone know about this?

Of course. This movie is a staple. To go without seeing it is like, well, missing it.

I saw it and didn't find it funny. I found it mildly offensive

Well the whole point of Monty Python is that they are mildly offensive and silly

I actually love this movie, and how I think of God is how they portray him here, with the "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" "Averting my eyes my Lord" STOP DOING THAT I HATE WHEN PEOPLE DO THAT!"

I think God has a sense of humor, how else do you explain David Hasselhoffs career successes? No one in the movie is saying God is stupid, but that the things we do in Gods name are sometimes stupid

I think it is a venial sin to watch it. At least that's my opinion. God may have a sense of humour but I know a lot of people think Christianity is a joke and think Jesus himself did not think he was God. Monty Python puts across this viewpoint albeit in a comic manner

I am offended by several parts of it, esp. the castle of women with the neon cross on top. There are definitely impure jokes and innuendo there. I have no desire to put garbage into my mind.

Genius. No question there's impure jokes and innuendo in it; that's why we don't let the kids watch it.

Arthur: Look, if he was dying, he wouldn't have bothered to carve Arrrrggggggghhhhhh on the rock; he would have just said it.

It is a fantastic movie...It helps us laugh at ourselves.

It's like the majority of movies--or books, or plays, or pieces of music for that matter.

An individual taste. I, for example, enjoyed most of it, was mildly disturbed by some of it, and "tuned out" some as well.

Lots of people LOVE the Three Stooges (nyuk, nyuk), lots of others would rather undergo a root canal than view them.

If something is an occasion of sin for you personally, avoid it. Even if it's something that the majority of people might not have trouble with, the point is that you must consider yourself and your relationship with God first. This is why some people don't drink--not because they think drinking is evil, but because for them personally they know they will drink to excess. But they don't try to keep EVERYBODY ELSE from drinking, especially those who drink responsibly.

Having said that, I would myself never even consider rewatching Monty Python's "Life of Brian". I know it would offend me and be an occasion of sin.

This reminds me of the discussion regarding the Simpsons. Both are, in my opinion, hilareous! And my dear wife hates both!

Humility does not require us to mock our religion. We should respect ourselves as temples of the Holy Spirit not laugh at ourselves
