Default May I marry in the Catholic Church?

I am from a strong Catholic family. My biological sister and aunts are nuns and have foster brother priests.i am living overseas and I met a separted Catholic man whom I am inlove with.he is inlove with me too and wanted to marry me.He filed a divorce (bcoz of adultery)from his catholic wife but its not yet approve.they are married by a judge in Africa but not in the church. We both wanted to get married in the Catholic Church right after the approval of his divorce but I learned we cant get married because a catholic priest is not allowed to marry a divorce person. Also I learned their is a need for annulment if we really wnated our wedding to be in our Church .Please enlighten me in this situation. My faith in the Catholic Church matters a lot to me and me getting married outside the Church is like not marrying at all.
Thank you very much!

Default Re: I want to marry in the catholic church

Hi,

In order to get an annulment one is required to have been divorced. If the marriage has been annulled, a Catholic is allowed to marry a person who has been civilly divorced since there was no valid marriage in the first place.

Your friend should have no trouble getting his marriage annulled quickly since he is a Catholic and married outside of the Church.
Then you may marry in the Catholic Church.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.
