Default Inheritance and Church Support

Hello All,
Well my Aunt's estate is being finalized this fall, and I expect to receive $X ( personal ). My question is, what percentage of X, is the minimum I MUST give, if any, and what is the max percentage of X, that I should give. I am not sure how to handle this, any advice>?

The Catholic Church does not place any requirements regarding a "minimum" or "maximum" one MUST give to the Church or any charity.

You need to discern through prayer what you feel called to give.

there is no amount required by church law, if that is your question, there is no percentage required, there is no requirement that you tithe an inheritance. 10% is a guideline that has biblical roots, but is not part of church law. you are obligated in law to support the local parish, the diocese and the work and ministry of the universal Church. Use your best prudential judgement.

My mother was once asked what she would do if she ever won the lottery. She answered that she would sandblast the statue of St.Theresa in the Shrine of the Little Rose. She lived in San Antonio. When I received an unexpected inheritance, I sent 10% to Shrine in her name. I knew it was what she would have wanted.
