Default Search CA Forums from directly within Firefox's search bar

Follow these instructions for both links below. Also, I'm assuming you installed to the default directory with these instructions and that you are using Firefox as you follow them:
  1. Right click the above links and choose "Save link as..."

  2. Save the files to the following directory on your hard drive:
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins\

  3. Close all open Firefox browser windows

  4. Re-open Firefox and check the search bar. You should now have a "CA Forums" search option in the search bar in the upper-right corner.

http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeowyr0/CAForums.src
(strangely enough, the URLs are case sensitive)

Hope it comes in handy! (Perhaps a moderator may want to "Sticky" this also)

Yes, and it seems to work well. I just did one search.

So what are the defaults? Search all forums, topics and message body? What else is pertinent to this search?

Thank you.

Using the search bar is the same thing as using the search option at the top of each forum page (see picture below).

The defaults are actually determined by Catholic Answers as it uses the basic search function from this forum. If the CA Forum administrator decided to change the defaults for the basic search function, it would change the defaults for my Firefox search bar automatically.

Hi Rich,

Thanks for the plugin! I did a quick test drive and it seems to work well. Will this also work for Linux? If so, is the install procedure the same?

Hi gtrplr, I was just looking through my old threads and saw your reply. Sorry for the delay, (seems like you haven't been on in a few weeks)

Anyway, I'm not sure about Linux, but here are some instructions for Linux (under notes. just add instead of delete): http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_:_...Search_Plugins

I have a quick launch bookmark in my Firefox bookmark bar. I can't seem to get it to work like you say, but I gotta tell you - I'm impressed by the graphics you posted to help! (Caveat: I am a marginally functioning computer user - Right click, save as - that's the extent of my knowing the fancy stuff!)

Yes, my laptop screen just got here (shattered the other one about two weeks ago ). That's going in tonight, and then I'll install the toolbar to test it (as my laptop is the linux machine)

Default Re: Search CA from the Firefox Search Box

I've made 3 search plugins for you.

The instructions to install them are simple.
  1. Go to the main page of either www.catholic.com, forums.catholic.com, or oce.catholic.com.
    .
  2. In your browser, simply select the Catholic Answers search plugin and your done!

The example below shows how to add the search tool from the Catholic Answers "Faith" site (www.catholic.com). Just select Add "Catholic Answers" from the drop down list:

The www.catholic.com search plugin searches across all catholic.com sites (same as the one described at http://forums.catholic.com/announcement.php?a=36)

The forums.catholic.com search plugin uses the normal forum search and similarly, the oce.catholic.com search plugin uses the site's normal search function.

The plugins can be used in Firefox 2, Firefox 3, or Internet Explorer 7.
