"time out"
Not sure if this is a bug or not but it has me puzzled.
It appears that if I'm logged in but "inactive" for more than a few minutes, the system logs me out. No notification. The only way I noticed it was the "login" box at the top of the page.
This never happened in the "old" system, but it's happened to me twice already today.
Any info from the tech support staff would be appreciated.

Re: "time out"
Correct. As a security precaution, 15 minutes of inactivity will cause an automatic log-out.
However, if you check "Remember Me" during login, the CAF system will keep your log-in current so that there's no need to re-login every visit.

Re: "time out"
Thanks for the info. I'll give the "remember me" a try and see how it goes.

Re: "time out"
It may be generally safe for you to use "Remember Me" from a home or personal computer... provided no one else can use that computer.
It is not a good idea to use "Remember Me" if you are using a public computer or one that does not belong to you. It is too easy to forget to log out and the next user of that computer may gain access to your account.

Re: "time out"
I'm having the same problem, only it logs me out a lot and while staying active (NO time outs). Some times when just changing pages and always when going to a profile of a poster.
Very frustrating!

Is there any chance you might increase the time period to 30 minutes or so? Several times I have begun writing a response to someone's post, only to be timed out before I post it.
(Evidently some of my posts have taken more than 15 minutes to write).

Re: "time out"
Try to use "Preview Post" to extend your session so you won't encounter "time out".

Thank you. That seems to be helping.

The simplest solution is to click "Remember Me" when logging in. You'll never be logged out (until you click "Log Out" in the main menu). However, this may pose a security risk for you is you use a public computer (because it is easy to forget to click "Log Out" when done). On a personal home computer that only you use, it's not such a big deal.
If you don't want to use the "Remember Me" option, then there a couple approaches people use:
- Compose posts and messages in an external editor (e.g., Word, Notepad). That way you'll have a copy of the message that is independent of the forum editor.
- If inadvertently logged out, immediately log back in. Most recent browsers will retain the editor data and allow you to post anyways.
Hope that helps.
