(ANSA) - Vatican City, July 7 - Pope Benedict XVI's latest encyclical, Charity in Truth, does not call for a world ''supergovernment'' but urges reform of international organisations, a top Vatican cardinal clarified Tuesday.
The cardinal made his remarks at a crowded press conference to present the encyclical, the pope's third.
In the encyclical Benedict appeared to criticise the United Nations, calling for its reform and saying there was an ''urgent need for a true world political authority'' that would be universally recognised and vested with effective powers on a number of issues, including finance and security.
