Is it a Florida orange orchid after a hard freeze (ice on the oranges). No

So, ice or snow or something melts outside and there's carrots that you can eat? Or is it frozen carrots being thawed?

No, - I didn't say there were multiple carrots

otherwise

Yes. I think most of this was implied in what came before.
It was outdoors, and getting warmer. The snow melted and (of course) the carrot(s) thawed. The "carrot(s)" was/were what was left behind to eat.

You need to restate the above, adding just one simple, everyday additional piece of information.

I wasn't just being ornery. (I know you know that). Its pretty important that there is just 1 carrot
So... it was lunchtime? No. It could be any time anyone feels like a carrot

Solved!

I first heard this from my (8-10 year old) nephew:
"If the snowman melts, eat the carrot".

Personally I'd rather make lemonade when life hands me a lemon, but I guess some people prefer carrots...

Just coincidentally my "signature" sort of fits in the solution:
If you're going to be snow, you may as well be a snowman
