Help! How do i deter kittens from going to bathroom on carpet?
Hi everyone, I'm new here and could really use some tips/advice with 6 abandoned kittens i recently rescued from my friend's backyard.
I rescued them when they were about a week old and are now about 4 weeks of age.
I already have 2 labs and 2 other cats i've rescued so my apt. is quite the farm at the moment. Bottle feeding 6 kittens every 2 hours is no joke! Lot's of work. I even dream of giving birth to kittens and hear their meowing even when they are not! LOL. Good thing they are now just starting to wean and eat some regular food, but they are not yet fully weaned.
Anyway, these kittens now have free range of living room since they really need room to play and romp now. I initially had them in this huge sort of kitty condo i made out of cardboard, but once they got large enough, they jumped the condo walls----once they discovered the universe of the living room, there was no way they were returning to that place. i have set up 2 large litter boxes for them which they do use, but the problem is that they also pee and poop in corners and under furniture. Even in my dog's bowls! ugh!
I do keep the litter boxes clean and am constantly removing poop from boxes so they will always want to return to it. If i see them starting to pee/poop on carpet i immediately place them in litter box. I'm trying to deter them from going back to those corner spots and even tried putting down tin foil in those spots thinking that would deter them, but they just ended up playing with tin foil and continue going to bathroom there.
Besides cleaning up those spots with nature's miracle etc, does anyone have any ideas that would help to deter them from going on carpet? Do they sell any sort of deterrent sprays for carpets? Would bitter apple work? I was thinking perhaps putting down some double stick tape, but knowing them, they'd end up pulling it up and making it their new toy. I love them so much and wish i could keep them all. I am keeping 2 though and placing the rest.
Any tips, ideas or advice would sure help me out.
Thanx
