Recommend history books
Looking for good American history books, and the middle ages. Nothing too heady or dry.

Re: Recommend history books
"A Distant Mirror"
You will never go wrong with anything by Barbara Tuchman and I think this is one of her widely acknowledged classics. "The Avignon Papacy, the Great Schism in the Church, Popes and Antipopes, the Black Plague, Feudalism, Protestantism, the persecution of witches and sorcery, the prelude to the Renaissance, Italian banking, Antisemitism, and the Medieval in general" -- it is all there, filled with wonderful detail by a woman who is more storyteller than historian. You will love it.

Years ago I followed it up by reading a fictional work "The Name of the Rose" which had much of the same story as a backdrop to a murder mystery. Very thick book but you will actually read it all and know that you have been in the company of genius after you finish it,
Thank you for your more than generous comments about my blog.
