Default Does anybody know the origen of the label "Dogan"?

Growing up I often heard my father complain about the d___ Dogans clogging up the streets as we were trying to get to our church service. The only other person that used that name was my best friend in high school.
I recently read that it is a Canadian derogatory term used for Catholics that is no longer in use.
So where did that word come from?

According to this

Quote:
Dogan is a Canadian Catholic. It may derive from a common Irish surname or may have been created to sound like a typical Irish last name.

More discussion of the term here

Thanks for the links. Very educational. (Hey. They never taught us that stuff in school!)

"The Pope's nose".
I always thought my dad called it "the pokes nose". I never understood that one.
