How to support faithful clergy in the face of their anti Benedict congregations?
The white smoke went up during Noon Mass at our local cathedral (not my home parish, but I work nearby so I'm around a lot) so the press was out in force wating for the "faithful" to emerge and waiting for the name of the selected Cardinal. When the name was announced, the priests and a few young people were jubilant about the announcement; but most of the laity gave out a big groan of disappointment and/or disgust (the loudest groan, remarked on by the reporter -- "sounds like someone's not happy") was from the RCIA director . This all on live local television, rebroadcast at 6 and 11. When I ran into Monsignor the next day, I congratulated him on how wonderful our new Father is, and we did a "high five." There were several people in the area who gave us rather dirty looks and now a number of people won't even speak to me . . . What can we do to help bring these folks around? and to support the faithful clergy?
