Hi!
This is news to me. Interesting!
The statement that he was a "mere Christian" is potent and suggests a reason he would never have become Catholic. It would have expressed a rejection of one form of Christianity in favor of another, when he was of the opinion there was a mere Christianity that he already had within the Anglican Communion.

That is correct. None the less, he made some favorable observations about Orthodox clergy, and liturgy. Not to say he was in any way inclined to drift Eastward.

Pearce's book on the subject is about the best of the three I know of; his, Fr. Randolph Willis' and Christopher Hollis'.
Still a few problems with it, but I often recommend it to folks interested in this subject.

THe same problem would be found with Orthodoxy I think.
