When Joseph Razinger was 14, he was enrolled against his will into Hitler's Youth. His parents got him out so he could study for the priesthood. When he was 16, he was drafted into the German army as a munitions worker (very common). He deserted (an offense that could have lead to his execution). While he was in a deserter status, he was captured by Americans and spent time as a POW until the war ended. So, while he did spend time in the German army during WWII, it was involuntary and he resisted in as much as a teenager can resist.

Re: New pope
The Pope was a young boy in Germany during WWII and at that time every young boy was required to be enrolled in the Hitler Youth. He had no voluntary involvement with the Nazis.

Re: New pope
And even if he WAS a Nazi by choice (NOT saying he was - obviously he wasn't) but even if he was big deal. The Apostle Paul persecuted Christians before his conversion & look at how God was able to change his heart & use him. That's the most wonderful thing about God, IMO - that there is forgivness for the most horrible of offenses so even a Nazi could become a new person in Christ.

Well put. This is something the anti-Catholic media is trying to put out. Pay no attention to them. The new Pope has been called God's rottweiler as a derogatory remark. The 2 rottweilers I know are good dogs but you would not want to mess with their masters when they are around, so personally I would love to be God's rottweiler.
