Default Does residual wine in the cruets also become consecrated during the consecration?

If the priest pours the wine into the chalice and residual wine remains in the wine cruet and the cruet is left at the altar, does it also become consecrated at the time of consecration? Does it become consecrated during the consecration if it were removed to a side table in the sanctuary? At what point does wine not become consecrated? How is residual wine in the cruets typically disposed of?

Thank you.

Hi,

Only the wine that the priest intends to consecrate becomes consecrated--no matter where it is. That being said, the cruets should ordinarily not be left on the altar, but on the credence table where they belong.

The cruets may be emptied and then re-filled or more wine may just be added to what was left over.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.
