I miss Terri
My heart goes out to Terri Schiavo's family. I was privileged to go on a Father's day picnic with a severely handicapped child. It was so touching to see how the family loved and cared for their bother. Every time I would lift up my girls to see his face and talk to him, I saw joy in his eyes. He has a way that lifts up the room with his smile. What a blessing it is to have a special needs child.
I really miss Terri. How about you? How has Terri or a special needs individual touched your life?

Re: I miss Terri
Terri touched me profoundly and still does. The world saw her as a half a person I saw a gift from God embrasing the cross with dignaty. The terminology they used with Terri was like they do to the unborn The reflection of the feeding tube and the placenta, the callousness of peoples remarks.I recognized the evil intentand Terris murder was a step to bigger things.I think she is praying for us.

Re: I miss Terri
Wow. I am a nurse, so I work with disabled people, mostly children. Working with the disabled taught me so much. Kids are resiliant. It takes courage to be disabled and deal with it gracefully. (And to have a sense of humor, too) I know there's some things that I have decided that I would not do if I was in the position that some of my patients are/have been in. And I've thought seriously about either being a foster mother for "medically fragile" children or adopting a child with Down's or AIDS.
Here's something that I posted here about a little girl that I work with. (She's not my daughter)

And of course I miss Terri, but I am glad that she is in heaven with our beloved Lord and Savior.

Re: I miss Terri
My sister is a nurse who was head of a group home for profoundly disabled people. She said in comparison to her patients, Terri was an Olympic athlete. Her patients are cared for because they don't have an evil 'caretaker' demanding that this care stop. She said even the very disabled respond to different people differently. They are not vegetables. It's a matter of learning THEIR language, not trying to demand they learn our language. Lisa N

Yeah.
I'm just now getting to where I can look at pictures of Terri without wanting to cry.

Re: I miss Terri
I think the world is worse off in not having her. I can't imagine how her family feels. And I wonder how the father (as one myself) restrains himself from going after Michael.
