Re: Bob Dunning on the Catholic Channel
I have listened to Dunning and his producer's banter for a year now. I have even exchanged numerous emails with him. While Dunning is clearly pro-life he has taken many stances that would be considered leftist and contrary to Church teaching. For example, he blasted a Catholic school that would not admit the child of a same sex couple. The school's logic was sound -- they teach the Church's position on same sex marriage and feared the child would be alienated. Also, it would send the wrong message to other parents. Dunning simply lambasted the school. On other occasions he has had guests on the show that claim the Bible dictates that government impose high taxes on its citizens -- that we are mandated to do so. Many popes have condemned redistribution of wealth because it reduces all people to poverty while establishing an elite and privileged class. I don't intend to be political by this post but his program is largely political. Most often, Dunning gives voice to liberals and offers very little counterpoint from a conservative. I have often heard listeners call his show and complain that "MSNBC does not belong on the Catholic Channel." It's OK with me to have someone who gets Catholic teaching wrong coupled with liberalism but at least offer listeners someone to rebut his often times ludicrous positions.
