Does it always fall on August 9th, if not how is the day determined?

I'm not sure who Michael Voris is, but the World Youth Day office just sent out an e-mail to group organizers, warning that his events are not sanctioned by the World Youth Day leadership or the bishops. If they're going through the trouble of sending such a message to everyone, I would avoid it.

The catechesis sessions at World Youth Days are usually given by the bishops themselves! It's wonderful that the bishops will travel halfway around the world and spend a week of their time to personally instruct their flock.

From the warning:

Quote:
[T]here is a warning being put out by the Madrid organizers about Michael Voris who is not approved by WYD to participate in the Cultural Program and is not eligible to deliver catechesis. However, he and his group are trying to set up their own catechetical sessions. This is not one of the many events being put on for US pilgrims, so please do not participate in any events that he and his group may be inviting you to.

I have attached the official video response, as well as the press release, to clear up any misunderstanding that may arise from the WYD "unapproved" statement.

Thanks, Liza. It most certainly helped clear up a few things.

I don't think it cleared up anything IMHO. All RCTV's press release said was "we have the right to be here, thanks for the free publicity!" without addressing why the WYD organizers made their statement in the first place.

But that's exactly the point - no one knows why they did that "in the first place"!! They haven't said, and RCTV has no idea. So what is there to say, aside from "we never asked to be approved, and never assumed to be an official part of WYD".

Not sure what you are expecting.

I'm expecting some of the journalistic skills of RCTV be put to use and investigate why they're not an official part of the events, and also why the the notice went out.

They are not an official part of the events because they didn't ask to be, and didn't wish to be. No great conspiricy, no big secret, nothing to investigate.

Why the notice went out? Who knows? And frankly, they really don't care. It's been fantastic advertising for the apostolate, so why waste time digging into something that has been only a win!

This is politics on the part of the USCCB.

Watch the hour long CIA videos and you'll understand why maybe his presence makes some uncomfortable. We can't have the Youth learning more about the nitty-gritty now!

The gist I got from the statements and the video,

Quote:
SOUTH BEND, IN – The faithful who work at http://www.realcatholictv.com would like to thank the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for drawing attention to our existence and scheduled contributions to the upcoming World Youth Day events to be held in Madrid, Spain, as well as the launch of its new pilot program striving to address tough issues concerning sexuality and morals facing Catholic youth today, http://www.nobullinmadrid.com.

While we regret that some assistant to the Secretariat for Laity of the USCCB has not given us her approval “to participate in the cultural program”, we prefer to rely upon the higher authority of Our Lord Himself, and an Ecumenical Council of the Roman Catholic Church as it does what it can to increase the authentic Faith and Morals of the Catholic Church:

“The laity derive the right and duty to the apostolate from their union with Christ the head; incorporated into Christ’s Mystical Body through Baptism and strengthened by the power of the Holy Spirit through Confirmation, they are assigned to the apostolate by the Lord Himself.” Cf. Second Vatican Council, Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity, Apostolicam Actuositatem, 3.
If I'm not interpreting this incorrectly, do lay Catholics have to be SANCTIONED by the USCCB to attend WYD? It's like me going to decide to go to Spain and having to double check if I could GO with the higher ups???

What if I possibly wanted to hold a meeting at a bar with the other Catholics around the world to chat about Church matters as laity, and how we want to fight against Abortion something? Do I need approval for that?

The video defends itself well in that MV & RCTV did not ask for approval in the first place because it was too late to sign up for the booths, schedules, or whatever. This is an attempt to blacklist someone, preemptively, even insinuate that he is being defiant. If they held No Bull at Madrid two weeks after WYD, the USCCB would just come off MORE absurd. That other Catholics are going to be there for WYD, why wouldn't MV and his team also want to be around as Catholics in Madrid that day?
It's saying without saying, that MV somehow is being disobedient when there is nothing to disobey!

Going to private Catholic High School ten years ago. I remember thinking the Youth stuff was annoying to me, no offense to people who enjoyed it. If RCTV was speaking, it would probably pique my interest as a Youth. I hope the Youth get No Bull. It's very welcome.

Yup, pick your battles. Don't know if this counts as "suffering" through it. Since MV seemed pretty chipper in the video.

Seems more petty. Also, if those involved in going out of their way to saying he's not "official" because they're afraid of what is going to be said in regard to Catholic teaching against Secular Culture. That's on them to know that RCTV is faithful to the Church's positions.

Yup. MV has called out USCCB several times for failiing to uphold the Doctrines of the Faith, so it is no surprise at all that one of their members (or the whole group) wants to make him sound disobendient.

I don't agree 100% with his views (maybe 99.99% of them, though) but I have yet to hear ANYTHING come out of any of his programs, talks, videos, that can't be backed up with the truth and the Doctrines of the Faith. The guy speaks the truth, and those who do not love Truth are going to fight him...it's just a sad fact...and a cross that he is obviously willing (and prepared) to carry.
