For soccer, the women's program has won two national championships in the past 6 or 7 years.
As for Football: I just found out recently that they used to have a football team, but it was cut in 1950. Lately, there has been a movement to resurrect their football program. For the fun of it, some guys have shirts that say "University of Portland Football: Undefeated since 1950." It would be fun if they could bring it back. While I'm not very good at football, I would definitely try out for it...even if I'm stuck with special teams. |

Inspirational story about Mark Herzlich of Boston College making it back. In 2008 he was the ACC defensive player of the year and missed 2009 with cancer.

Well, week two didn't quite end the way I had hoped. Still, as a fottball fan, I enjoyed the game and feel that I saw a one of the best players in College Football today, the very elusive Mr. Robinson. The media is unanimous in choosing his Saturday performance as the best of the week.
I remain impressed and optimistic about the Irish defense. They played well and outside the last three minutes of the game managed to contain Robinson about as much as anyone could. Still, giving up more than 500 yards is nothing to be proud of even if it was against th most electrifying player in college football. It's kinda like playing against MJ in Basketball. You know he's gonna get his. You just have to make sure you hold down the rest of the team. Still, I would like to see us play better against the run in general. I was also impressed by their toughness through the first half. The Irish offense fell apart quite badly and together with Mr. Robinson's performance kept the defense on the field a lot longer than I would have preferred. I was getting worried that fatigue would set in making the task all the more difficult. They not only maintained a sense of urgency and energy, bu they also never seemed to become discouraged. The secondary played well also. The offensive situation is frustrating. I agree with many in the media that Crist is the driving force on offense. It's both a blessing and a curse. I knew it would be tough for a back-up to come in and play well, but I wasn't really worried because of the stellar running game we displayed last week. I felt that would take a lot of pressure off of the QB. Why Kelly abandoned the run is beyond me. I will say that i was disappointed in both Woods and Allen's performance. They just seemed lackluster with or without Crists presence. Still, it seemed to me that Kelly went a different direction which doesn't make sense to me. I have also been dumbfounded by Floyd's disappearance. He's a great talent; surehanded possession receiver and were just not getting the ball to him. It doesn't make sense. Rudolph was outstanding again and I think will continue to be a force. I am concerned about Crist. He's okay as a QB but his toughness may become a problem. Of course, there's no way for anyone to truly guage the hit he took on the QB sneak, but it just didn't seem to be a big deal. He came up with blurry vision? I'm not sure I feel comfortable seeing him run the ball or take a blind-side sack. I mean it's football and it's bound to happen. Rees threw the ball badly. He throws low and late. Montana just din't seemt o be confident at all. He seemed tentative and confused a good part of the time. If people were like horses, I would say start the guy and lt the magic happen. But, people are not like horses and i just don't see him embodying the "second coming". And, if kelly will veer more towards a west coast offense with Crist out we're in trouble! I hope i'm wrong about Crist and Saturday was a fluke, but it's a worry.

The ending of last week's game w/Notre Dame surprised me. Oh well, I think they'll bounce back.

Thanks for the link, Big Ro. Yeah, I think the ducks will do well this year. I just hope that the national championship game does not involve controversy like last year's with Cam Newton...

You know, I really don't know all the details about that controversy. My limited understanding is that his father basically sold him off to the highest bidder. I hope that's not too harsh. Well, at least you not at O State!
Good to hear from you. I hope your studies are going well.

Pretty cool, Big Ro. Yeah, I think Notre Dame will do well this year. As for college football, I noticed that Oregon and LSU play each other for their opener, and both teams seemed to have some players get into trouble (not surprised). Hope to watch a few games before the school year picks up (classes start on Monday).

Looks like a lot of our teams were not off to a good start this week. My ducks got creamed by LSU, and Notre Dame's comeback against South Florida fell short. Anyone have a better week?
