In The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary there is a sermon by Saint Aelred in the Sunday Lauds ( Sermo 2, in Nativitate beatae Mariae:PL 195, 322-324) which is an optional Second Reading and where I found the phrase:
Praise the Lord in his holy ones, say the Scriptures. I've brought this up in a discussion with an individual who does not believe in the existence of patron saints (they are dead---they can't talk to you---ask St. John what he meant in Revelation---you can't can you?---cause he's dead ---neener neener neener! )So I bring up this phrase and my friend tells me it is not in Scripture so I m hoping someone here can tell me where I can find a citation to show that Saint Aelred wasn't fibbing(oh yes, according to my friend Saints are the dead stoogies of the Catholic Church don'tcha know )so we can move on with our discussion(or at least put my friend on the defensive)Thank you! |

What precisely is he arguing against? The intercession of saints?

St. Aelred and I have been accused of making stuff up and saying it's in Scripture. Surely, a Saint wouldn't do that, nor would the publishers of The Little Office of The Blessed Virgin(who did not answer my e-mail, btw) In short: St Aelred said it, The Little Office says it, I believed it and used it as a point in an arguement and my potential convert refutes it is even in Scripture, and worse, lying Saints fit in with his prejudice of the Catholic Church being the Whore of Babylon. All I needed was the citation, which even the publishers won't provide

Here is something I foung, I believe on this website:
Revelation 8:3 Another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a gold censer. He was given a great quantity of incense to offer, along with the prayers of all the holy ones, on the gold altar that was before the throne. Holy ones are saints. |
