They are trying to make it a requirement for those women considering an abortion to see an ultrasound of their child before making the decision.

The seems to be the original bill as it is dated back in early Feb.
bellasbane. You made the claim in the other thread that the GOP in VA was mandating rape of women. You also claimed that the "rights and dignity of women were being thrown under the bus". Those are some pretty serious claims to make. Could you please demonstrate now where language which would have mandated transvaginal ultrasound was contained in the original bill?

In its current form, Virginia’s bill requires that the ultrasound find and monitor the fetal heartbeat and provide an image of the shape of the fetus. As in other states with ultrasound laws, this will often require a probe to be inserted into the vagina. The nonintrusive abdominal ultrasound, on the other hand, often cannot capture the fetus at its small size in the first trimester, when most abortions are performed. I think that if the real goal of this legislation is to provide an additional deterrent to a woman seeking an abortion, what they really should do is require her to undergo a TSA screening and "pat-down", like they do at the airports.

I agree. The patient should not be subjected to an intravaginal ultrasound unless she consents without coersion. Coersion should not be a part of patient care, nor should it drive the plan of care.
