Doubting is not an act punishible by excommunication. The following is from the Catholic Encyclopedia:
"Just as exile presupposes a crime, excommunication presupposes a grievous external fault...Internal failings, e.g. doubts entertained against the Catholic Faith, cannot incur excommunication."
