Confessing a Mortal Sin

I like my priest, so I do not want him to think badly of me. I have to go in for my first reconciliation in two weeks, and I must confess my mortal sin. Will the priest remember mortal sins? If so, will he let me explain why I did it, and why I cannot stop doing it?
