To be reconciled to the Church a person who has been excommunicated, even if that fact is known to the person alone, must first have the excommunication lifted. With the exception of certain crimes reserved to the Holy See, each bishop has the authority to remit the penalty of excommunication. However, he generally delegates this faculty to his priests, or at least to certain confessors.

Thus, by going to confession one can usually have the penalty lifted.

I will urge you to make an appointment with a priest and going to confession.

Luke 15:7 “I say to you, that even so there shall be joy in heaven upon one sinner that doth penance, more than upon ninety-nine just who need not penance.”

Acording to the original Greek, Apostasy is, "Forsaking or departing from the faith".
Not a total denial of it.
One can depart from,or forsake their faith, But then go back to it.
God said He is married to the backslider, And I know may backsliders who have come back to God.

Salvation is lost if you die in a state of mortal sin but you have until your dying breath to repent and confess.

Go to confession and confess your sins. Try to find an outlet that is constructive in your journey to know and love God. Discuss religion here with us, help out others in need, and of course pray. Prayer need not be a chore. You pray when you can. You must also live your life understanding that God understands man's tendency toward sin, and that is why we go to confession. But to not be overly scrupulous of our every last mistake, lest we be on our knees 24/7 in the confessional and not living our lives as God wants us to! Peace be to you in all that you do. God knows we sin, and that we fall into states of original sin often, but it need not be a thing to have anxiety about. Confess and get the stress of it off your back.

God Loves You,

Apostasy is the only unforgivable sin, only if one does not turn back to the Lord. In other words, Apostasy is a state of permanent denial of the faith; not your situation as you describe it:

Go to confession, talk to your priest, get involved in your faith. And forget about this bump in the road.

Please read this Newbie2 and the everyone else:

This is the longer version of what happened:
In September 2009 I began having OCD/scrupulosty, and it went on, and I wanted to be with the Lord so much after hearing the truth. However the thoughts of going to Hell were to much for me to bear even with medication. Then it came to the point where I said to myself "I dont care if im going to Hell!" and thats when everything slowed down and eventually my OCD and fear of Hell went away.

After that I forgot about the Lord, and lost my faith, so this is when i would sin e.g. watching pornography etc, and without asking for forgiveness after. At times I wanted to come back and prayed and tried but I started doubting the existence of the Lord.

At the start of this year I started praying again and trying my best to come back to the Lord, why? I think for my own personal benefit e.g. so he can help me and so on. I lacked faith and started sinning and asking for forgiveness, sometimes even days later, and it was a cycle.

Eventually I made up my mind that I wanted to be with the Lord, until I heard about what Hebrews 6:4-6 and Hebrews 10:26 said.

Hebrews 6:4-6:

4 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age 6 and who have fallen[a] away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.

As you can read here, that since I was at the point, of knowing the truth etc, and I still left the Lord later on, this means that I cannot be forgiven because Jesus died for me and I knew it and yet I left him again, hence to be possible for me to come back he would have to be crucified all over again, and hence for me to be forgiven for apostasy I think is not possible because there is NO sacrifice for the forgiveness of the sin. I know all sins can be forgiven, but since there is no sacrifice for this one, then its impossible.

Please i really really really want to be with the Lord, I will do anything and give up everything I have and even live on the streets if it means I can return to him...and he will accept me....but im so scared and terrified that everything is lost.

Here's what you need to realize: God's mercy is infinite, WAY beyond what we can understand.

There is nothing that cannot be forgiven if you are contrite and ask for forgiveness. Don't confuse that with Apostasy, which is permanent rejection of God and his mercy.

One of Satan's tricks is to try to convince us that what we've done is beyond forgiveness. Don't let him influence you. We'll pray for you. Now go to confession.

I highly doubt it. I think most people find themselves in this situation from time to time to varying degrees. Remember the parable about the lost sheep!

Are you not repenting of your transgressions?
Looks like you are.. so how doth this verse apply to you?

i've struggled with these verses and many more as well.
well sk what will it be, apply the verse the way you see it and just forget about everything you hoped for and loved, or stand up and fight for what there is to gain.

The deciver wants you to see this verse in the way you do. Why? how else can he gain your soul.

You have not lost salvation.
I suggest you read this.

http://www.catholic-forum.com/church...confession.htm

You came back to the Lord. We all doubt, we all sin, thats what sin is you know its wrong and you did it, sin. Not Apostasy. You came back, GOD DREW YOU BACK. He drew you out of the world because he is working in you.

I too am scrupulous and went through something similar, but mine was about the unforgivable sin and intrusive blasphemohs thoughts. When i read the "blaspehmy of the Holy Spirit" i cant even explain the horrible feeling i went through, but God is still here with me. I know it, he healed me from so many things. So please do not panick, do not fall into despair. God is a sea of mercy.
You have repented! Right there in your own words you can tell.
Despairing is doubting Gods mercy.

Again, read this, Jesus' words to Faustina. And to all.
http://www.catholic-forum.com/church...confession.htm

Please got to confession ASAP and talk with a Priest, it was the beginning to my healing process and will be yours as well.

God Bless.

Wow! yes your right! I am! But doesn't that mean I was never saved in the first place? Since if I was enlightened, tasted the heavenly gift shared in the Holy Spirit and tasted the godness of the words of the Lord and the powers of the coming age, and fallen away I cannot be brought back to repentence, but yet I am repenting, suggesting I was never saved in the first place??

But the thing is, when i turned away from the Lord i hardened my heart alot, not because I did not want to be with him, but because of my OCD and other issues, and when my heart was finally hardened to such a big point that I didn't care whether I want to Hell, the thoughts of going their stopped.

When i tried to come back to him earlier this year, it was for personal benefit of how he will help me, but at this point I will do anything and give up ANYTHING from this world to be with him.

Even when i pray now, I don't feel anything, when i first came to the Lord and learnt the truth I cried and so on, but now I feel that he is not even with me.

Also Hebrews 10:26 states:

26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,

Since I've sinned continously after learning the truth, there is no sarcifrice left for me, so how can my sin be forgiven if there is no sacrifice???

Please reply.

I really want to be with the Lord, I can't live my life without him.

I once heard an apologist on Catholic radio (can't remember who) comment on this very thing. A caller asked about the "unforgivable sin" referenced in Scripture, with concern that he may be guilty, and thus, "unforgivable".

The response the caller got was very simple, and somehow I think it may be relevant here (maybe not, but I like to talk). The caller was told that they could not possibly be guilty of such, because if they were, they would not even be bothering to ask the question. Even the very nature of the question shows that the person asking can not possibly be guilty of completely turning from God, because it is only by the power of the Holy Spirit that this would hold any personal relevance at all.

In one version of the Douay- Rheims Bible, there is this commentary on Hebrews 10:26
Quote:
[26] If we sin wilfully: He speaks of the sin of wilful apostasy from the known truth; after which, as we can not be baptized again, we can not expect to have that abundant remission of sins, which Christ purchased by his death, applied to our souls in that ample manner as it is in baptism: but we have rather all manner of reason to look for a dreadful judgment; the more because apostates from the known truth, seldom or never have the grace to return to it.

ScaredKid,

We ALL sin. Everyone. We are not perfect. But that is why we repent! You repent, we all do. Sin is our fallen nature. Thats why when we fall, dust yourself off, get back up and ask the Lord to guide you. Go to confession and talk to the priest. Jesus is watching you right now, seeing how you want to be with him so much, when we mortally sin we must humble ourselves and and go to confession. Jesus works through the priest, and once you get out of the confessional Jesus brings graces. Please go to confession. I was in your place a couple of months ago, that fear openned my eyes to see what i was doing and somethings were wrong. Say "Jesus, I trust in You!" and please read the link about penance i posted above. Stand firm, we all also go through trials. Look, you fear not being forgiven yet you still want to be with Jesus, and he is with you too! Hold on to him, and i strongly recommend these : Divine Mercy chaplet, the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel, and a Blessed St. Benedict medal.

As Children of God, we have to fight the evil one off. If you were not with God they would not be trying to rob you of your peace. Stand firm with Jesus. When you start feeling anxious, pray. Get on your knees and speak to the Lord, he hears everything.

In Christ. Maria1993

Please Maria1993, I already know what your saying, this is a totally big issue which is actually allegedly debated alot. As your name suggests your 18/19 years old, so please please don't take this the wrong way, but I need advice from someone who knows what I am talking about which is apostacy.
