on- or off-line status of UK members
Just curious ... I've noticed that when it comes to some (perhaps all?) members in the UK, even when they are obviously participating in a thread there is no status under their profile (for example "reading such and such a thread, browsing forums, etc.) and the "eye" that is normally green to indicate online status is always dark gray. Why would this be and is it intentional? Can they not see when I and others posting in the U.S. are online?
Added: it's only some of them which do not display the green "eye."

Perhaps the persons without the green "eye" are using Invisible Mode? This mode is an option for any member of CAF

Invisible mode allows you to browse the forums without appearing in the 'Currently Active Users' lists.
|
To choose, or un-choose, invisible mode, use the Profile menu which is near the top of every page here:
Profile > Control Panel > Edit Options
The very first option you will be shown is whether to use Invisible Mode. Just put a check in the box if you wish to use it.

Any idea why a person would want to use invisible mode?

It isn't anything which has appealed to me, so I can't say for sure.

They might leave their computers sometimes with CAF open, and so they don't want to mislead people into thinking they're there when they're not. Or they may just think of it as a privacy issue and prefer it not to show.
