Default TV Interview

This evening I was watching a television discussion of the moral merits of the Obama administration. Participating were a liberal Catholic priest and a conservative Evangelical minister. The priest tried to defend the Administration by promoting a moral equivalency between abortion and other social issues such as poverty, social justice, etc.
Isn't this wrong? Doesn't the abortion issue trump all other moral issues?

Yes abortion and all other sins which assault the life of a person are worse than sins which assault the dignity of a person.

Isn't it better that someone is born to a life of poverty, than if they are killed in the womb?

It's a shame that that priest represented the faith in that manner. Thanks be to God that those priests are a dying breed at the moment.

I can not understand the liberal catholic, it is an oxymoron. I know liberal priest and nuns and laypeople. I don't get it because the two are not compatable.

I can't understand liberal Catholics either. One goes against the grain of the other.

It's sad that someone can sit there and try to equivocate murder to poverty and other injustices. Sure, both are terrible grievances that we should work towards ending, but as Semper said, it is better to be poor and alive than dead before being given the chance to live.

From my experience someone who is a "liberal Catholic" is simply a person who is insecure in themselves and their faith. They don't want to go against the grain of our amoral society, so they try to find ways to justify certain actions in order to "fit in."

All we can do is pray for them and hope that they eventually see the error of their ways.
