... which is a great day to write a quick post on a Catholic forum about England's favourite near-genocidal Puritan, Oliver Cromwell!
On this day in 1653, Cromwell dissolved the Rump Parliament, the remnants of the old Parliament that had prosecuted the war against Charles I. There's a very interesting blog post about the speech he gave (?) while telling the Members assembled, "In the Name of God, Go!" right here. I think my favourite line has to be, "Ye have no more religion than my horse!".

And, lest there be any misunderstanding, I know that we are acknowledging the quote, not the man, whom you call "England's favourite near-genocidal Puritan, "

Thanks for giving "dear ol' Ollie" a mention.....Was it one of the Parliament members who shot out that juicy retort? I like him already
Ha, ha, I'm thinking Cromwell would have all three of our heads on a platter right now if he heard us being so cheeky! Where else could an Englishman, an Australian, and an American smart off Cromwell in unison but on a Catholic Forum, LOL?
