Says "Catholic," yet attacks the Church
Hello Mods and Members,
Lately I have noticed many threads started by or contributed to by Trial Membership people who state that their religion is Catholic, yet in their posts, they then state that they "have no allegiance to anyone but Christ," or "Rome created the Church" or nonsense like that.
I think CAF is under attack by non-Catholics, maybe evangelicals or fundamentalists.
Is it proper to report these posts? I think pretending to be Catholic while tearing the Church down on a public forum is very harmful, especially to new Catholics and lurkers.
Please advise. What should we do when we see this?

The best thing to do would probably be to report them. You would'nt want any non-catholics to get the wrong idea If there interested in the Church.

Yeah I noticed this too. I just came back from responding to someone passing off as 'catholic' yet strangely, doesn't beleive that the Bible is divinely inspired. Beats me .

I have thought the same thing. Yet answering them with clarity and in charity might lead someone on the path to truth, either for the person doing the posting, for lurkers, or even for somebody who finds the thread years later.

Re: Says "Catholic," yet attacks the Church
many catholics have been so use to the liberal media constant attack of the church they regard it as the norm, so to come here and see people defending the truth of the church must be a shock

Re: Says "Catholic," yet attacks the Church
OH yeah!!
We wouldn't want that.
What we need to do is give clear concise answers.....without mincing words.
I know I know.........it's doesn't sound charitable.
Well , I can't sacrafice one for the sake of the other....so, I'm going for the concise and clear...after all.........I'm just a mangy dog; perro sarnoso.

It had better be charitable...or someone will be hearing from us mods.
A careful review of the rules and guidelines in the link in my signature will help to avoid problems.
Internet "ringers" are certainly possible, but like Robert said just hit that and let us know and we'll check it out.

Thankyou Michael.
Folks, this is an Internet forum, a place where people can be as honest or dishonest, as real or as manufactured in their personae, as they choose.
Just how on earth do you propose ensuring that everyone who calls themselves Catholic really is so? Demand production to the mods of birth certificates? Letters from their parish priests? What?
And of by some miracle CAF was somehow able to establish that someone is indeed baptised Catholic, and everyone who is has the right to call themselves so, are we to play happy families and pretend that all baptised Catholics are marching merrily in lock-step with Rome? And that only people who are are entitled to the name of Catholic? This simply isn't the case, as Catholics and non-Catholics alike know too well.
As long as proper Magisterial teaching is both expounded and promoted on CAF, let there also be room here for those who disagree with it, be they from within or without the church, to be able to air their views without being accused of being ringers.
