Does anyone say the rosary while they walk the dog?
I was thinking of trying this. Does anyone do it? I was just wondering if it was difficult to keep your mind on the mysteries as you walk, and do you think this kind of posture would honor Mary, or would she rather I be still?

Re: Does anyone say the rosary while they walk the dog?
Hello, I enjoy praying the rosary during long or short walks. I started a few years back when our organization (I was active duty) would participate in huge walk/run events and to abstain from idle gossip; I decided to pray the rosary. It was most rewarding. I don't see why praying the rosary when walking your dog would be any different. I also bring my rosary to doctor appointments, flights, trains, or my car when traveling. It is a comfort to me to pray the rosary whenever I can find spare time and sometimes it is during one of those mundane events such as "waiting for the doctor, waiting to board a plane, waiting...and waiting." Why not? Go for it. You'll be richly blessed.

Re: Does anyone say the rosary while they walk the dog?
It is said that those who truly master prayer can "pray without ceasing", and this is the goal of monasticism, particularly in the Eastern traditions.
Most Eastern monasctics focus on the Jesus Prayer:
Quote:
|
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner!
|
While this short prayer is far less complex than the Rosary, the goal of prayer is nonetheless the same - to set aside all earthly cares, and to enter into a conversation with God and to be drawn closer to God.
If you find yourself at peace while enjoying the beauty of Creation and walking you beloved God-created companion, you are truly blessed! I do say the Jesus Prayer while walking my dog, and find it to be one of my best prayer moments!

I have tried it, but I find it somewhat distracting. There are always people walking other dogs that want to sniff or growl at mine, or a bird will go by, etc. I feel like I am not concentrating enough. I don't think Mary minds wherever we pray, so if it works for you, go for it!

I don't have a dog, but I do pray the rosary when I go out walking. Sometimes, I just walk around the house saying the rosary. For me, distractions come regardless of whether I'm still or moving.

I have taken my dog to the local conservation area and prayed the rosary as we walked. It was incredibly peaceful! If there are any nature trails or anything like that in your area, I highly recommend it.

Re: Does anyone say the rosary while they walk the dog?
I've never done it while walking the dog, but when I am on my way to daily mass I do. I've found that if I start the apostles creed as I leave my front door by the time I actually walk into the church parking lot I can finish one. I never find it difficult to keep my mind on the mysteries, but sometimes I find I end up slowing down so I have to leave a little earlier than normal so that I don't by accident show up late for mass.

Yes, I do pray the rosary early every morning in the park while I am walking the dog. We are usually the only ones there summer or winter. It is incredibly rewarding and there are no distractions. Even the dog has gotten used to this rhythm and seems to sense it!

I think I'll give it a try today. If I'm too distracted I'll just say the Divine Mercy instead

Re: Does anyone say the rosary while they walk the dog?
I have several rosary MP3's on my ipod and turn that on with my ear buds and recite the rosary with one of my mp3's while I walk, with or without a dog with me! I rarely meet anyone but occasionally pause it to say hello to a neighbor and chat for a brief period of time. Works well and keeps me on track. I have used rosary beads and have done it without beads.

Re: Does anyone say the rosary while they walk the dog?
I don't have a dog to walk. I am a cat person myself and will never own a dog unless it comes from my future husband. That said, I do pray the Rosary while I am driving a fairly long distance in my car. I have a Rosary CD that I pop into my CD player and then I pray along with it.

Good tip. I say several rosaries in a day but I get tired. If i listen to, it would help a lot.
Can you give us your links to mp3 rosaries that are you favorites?
Thanks.
