Default Chinese activistís escape prompts calls for US action

Quote:
Beijing, China, Apr 30, 2012 / 02:05 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- The escape of Chen Guangcheng, a human rights advocate who opposed Chinaís brutal one-child policy, is resulting in calls for the U.S. to protest human rights abuses within the communist country.

ďThis is a test of Premier Wenís commitment to fundamental human rights, the rule of law, and common decency,Ē said Congressman Chris Smith (R-N.J.), who chairs a U.S. House subcommittee on human rights.

I say we should definitely protest the human rights abuses that China is doing. Chinese Christians have very little freedom as far as freedom of religion goes. And then there is this abhorrent one child policy which means that once you have one child you will have to either go on birth control to prevent future children which is gravely immoral or you would have to be sterilized which is also gravely immoral or you take the risk of getting pregnant again and then being forced to have an abortion. And as we well know, abortions are gravely immoral as well.

Totally agreed. That's why supporting Amnesty International is so important, since they support human rights and persecuted dissidents in China and everywhere.

Unfortunately I think Amnesty International now supports "gay rights". That is one reason why I cannot and will not support Amnesty International.

Well, not to get sidetracked, but AI support the right not to be persecuted, jailed, beaten or killed because you're gay. Surely no one has a problem with that, no matter their opinion of gay rights.

Mr. Chen's case is really important. Hopefully it will force the US to make a strong stand concerning human rights in China.

I am waiting to see.

One could hope the US will stand up and take action.
But unfortunately I believe they will wait for this to leave the front pages and then turn him over to the Chinese government.

I fear Mr. Chen is only as alive as the story.
Once people lose interest in the story, he is dead.

I wouldn't hold your breathe. When the chinese were being overun by tanks in Tienamin square our president was fighting for China to obtain most favored nation status in the WTO.

Unless this hero works for Goldman Sachs or is related to Warren Buffet the members of the imperial court in D.C. could care less.
