Did Satan want Christ alive or dead???
Satan thru Peter tells Jesus in the garden he doesn't have to die.
But then he enters Judas to get Jesus killed.
What DOES he want?

Satan wanted Jesus to turn his back on his father. You will recall that Satan tried to do the same with Job. Gods sole purpose is for us to know and love him. Satan's sole purpose is for us to reject God and hate him.

From what I understand in the Gospels, it's not that he wants Jesus to be dead or alive, so much as ineffective.

Of curse he did not want that Jesus made the perfect sacrifice.

Re: Did Satan want Christ alive or dead???
Satan seems to have tried to use different tactics to thwart the Father's plan regarding Jesus. Satan tried to kill Jesus before His appointed time when Jesus was a baby by Herod and during His ministry by a crowd at a cliff but failed both times. He also tried to tempt Jesus away from the Father's plan, directly as in the wilderness and later in the garden and indirectly as with Peter but failed all those times as well. It would seem that Satan preferred the death of Jesus but would have settled for misleading Jesus.

Re: Did Satan want Christ alive or dead???
I read in the City of God (the life story of the Blessed Virgin Mary) that Satan wanted Jesus dead until he suspected that Jesus was God, the One would redeem mankind with His death.

I think Satan would have done anything to thwart Jesus.
1st, he tried to kill Him as an infant.
Then, he tried to tempt Him in the desert.
Then, he tried having Him stoned to death by the people.
THEN, he entered Judas and connived with the Sanhedrin to have Jesus killed. What he didn't know, is that was God's plan:
John 11:51
And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
Curses! Foiled again!
Satan played right into God's hands. Jesus obedient unto death, turned the Cross on its head and it became a sign of salvation. And it is wonderful in God's eyes.
Sincerely,
De Maria

That's the general idea in each scenario. I doubt that he envisioned death being defeated on the Cross.

Noooo. It would be a far greater victory for Satan to cause the Son of God to sin by turning Him against His Father.....then he would kill Him.
