Anyone else got eyeballed for having a Catholic symbol?
While I was walking with my mother, we passed by a small Hispanic Protestant Church, with a couple of Hispanic Protestants talking outside. I was wearing a crucifix around my neck and one lady gave me a glance. I payed no mind, but my mother asked "why is she looking at you like that?"
I've noticed that a couple of them (as well as Jehovah's Witnesses) have given me weird glances and stares for wearing Catholic symbols. I've seen a group called "Catholics in the South" who experienced similar but I've live in NYC, which is mostly Catholic, and the majority of Hispanics are Catholic (I for instance )
But has this happened to anyone else. Has anyone else been given the look for wearing Catholic stuff?

Other than "I like your cross," nope. (I wear a 2" "crown of thorns" cross.)

I have to admit, in the past I had 'eyeballed' others for their catholic symbols. Especially the rosary. Now I walk around town with one of my own.

Re: Anyone else got eyeballed for having a Catholic symbol?
I just had to throw in my .
When my in-laws were here recently to visit hubby and I , we went to a protestant church with them (in-laws are protestant). I was wearing a crucifix my mother gave me years ago. I got those looks too. I couldn't understand why- the crucifix symbolizes the love Christ has for us that he died on the cross for us.

Well I'm the only catholic in my family as I stated in a past conversation me and you had, and I always wear rosary beads on my hands and scapulars and my jehovah witness friends say it's a scam and Jesus didn't die on the cross, and when I visited my old Protestant parish I wore rosary beads on my hand and they also stared

Are you sure it was the crucifix? Sometimes I get funny looks, but usually it's because I accidentally tuck my shirt inside my underwear or something.

Re: Anyone else got eyeballed for having a Catholic symbol?
Not eyeballed but have had some usual nasty comments said to me.
When I found a frame for my picture of the Holy Family my aunt said to me "You shouldn't have pictures like that, it is idol worship" and then went into a rant about how the Catholic Church is bad because we have statues and the Bible forbids it.

Re: Anyone else got eyeballed for having a Catholic symbol?
I was wearing a T shirt that says B16 on the front. A fallen away Catholic friend of mine asked me what it meant. I told her Benedict the 16th..the Pope, ya know. She rolled her eyes and said, "Oh God! We gotta get you some new clothes".

Re: Anyone else got eyeballed for having a Catholic symbol?
Hey I wore my crucifix into an Adventist church and I thought they were gonna' try an exorcism on me! Two nights ago I was in a jacuzzi and this guy noticed my crucix, he liked it though. I met an Austrailian couple that was Catholic and they had rosaries around their neck. I know that probably isn't right but they didn't know that.

No, it's okay to wear rosaries.

Re: Anyone else got eyeballed for having a Catholic symbol?
Yes I do get looks I wear a silver Our Lady Of Guadalupe necklace every day. I live in Texas and where I work there is a lot of people with Mexican heritage and people that have immigrated from Mexico. Some of the people don’t know a lot of English yet I’ve been stopped about that and we have something in common; Our Lord Jesus, we are family.
Ok I also wear tee-shirts that says U.S. Catholic, Catholic Original, EST. 33AD, Our Lady Of Guadalupe shirts, Catholic baseball hats; I’m proud, I’m Catholic and wear it on my sleeve—if people don’t like it or are offended by it. That’s their problem I will not be ashamed for being a Christian; PRAISE JESUS!

I wear a silver cross at all times. It's not a crucifix but I get looks anyway.

Re: Anyone else got eyeballed for having a Catholic symbol?
Catholics and non-Catholics alike loved the Benedictine Crucifix I used to wear around ('til I lost it, somehow....argh). I sometimes wear a simple wooden cross given to me by my OFS fraternity, and that doesn't get many looks one way or the other. I've got a number of curious stares when I wear the fairly large, brass Miraculous Medal that I have, though.
