Pre-Christian St. Augustine
I'm writing a paper on St. Augustine. Can anyone remember the life and some of the sexual exploits of St. Augustine that influenced his writings?
Thanks, God bless....

Read his confessions -http://www.stoa.org/hippo/
But in short he slept with many woman had a child out of wedlock with one of them (there is a pretty good play based on her)he looked at porn, practiced contraception, converted left her and his son but still struggled with his concupesence.

Re: Pre-Christian St. Augustine
But remember to keep his life in perspective of his time and the usual habits of non-christian young men of that time. While I do not condone having a concubine etc., this was quite normal.
(The concubinate is not to be confused with "having a woman on the side", like we often see it today, but in those times, it was a lasting relationship with a woman the man couldn't or wouldn't marry, because her standing was too low or he was set up to marry another woman who was yet too young etc.)

Get some books from the library and read them. School assignments should be your own work, not that of otheres.

I've actually been looking for links to websites to give me both the books and the information and quotes that I need. We're not really given the time to read ALL of the works of our favorite authors. -.- I thought, "What better place than CATHOLIC ANSWERS???" Thank you guys, God bless...

Re: Pre-Christian St. Augustine
His hypothesis on marriage, I believe there were five of them, if memory serves correctly were quite interesting and pretty well explained his views on sexuality, marriage, procreation etc. In his pre Christian days he was a Manachean. They did not believe in pro creation so at that time he practiced contraception of some sort.
