Seems like these promises might have people going into the priesthood half-heartedly.

Maybe, maybe not. The article points out that many people still aren't really willing to jump into a vocation.
They do point out in the ads that the life is not that materially great (not a big salary, no luxuries). And it's not like they're still not requiring years of seminary and studies, which can be pretty good at weeding out people who aren't all in as it is.

This is a good time for this In Europe, as the false promises of liberal socialism are revealed to have been frauds, why not remind people of the eternal truth they've been ignoring until now?
