My bigger concern though (cause I really don't know much about Mormonism) is how IVF is not just about having your own biological child now. They do all kinds of pre-implantation testing for genetic disease (and do test for gender) and only implant the healthy, perfect embryos. So it isn't just "extra" embryos that get frozen. The embryos that don't pass the testing all get destroyed.
And of course, most practitioners now do "selective reduction" - even for twins. It is just so sad. and worse that most people don't see any of this as sinful.

I know. These scientific developments have truly served to further undermine the dignity of the human person, treating people as commodities. It's unfortunate that this dimension of the fight for life is often not addressed.

I recently read a book called The Match about "savior siblings". Very scary stuff.

Ya, this whole paradigm is a result of Modernism. In older philosophical models, we sought to understand things for what they were and treat them accordingly. Modernism seeks to understand things so we can use them to get what we want. Its another form of utilitarianism. If something cannot help us get what we want, it is considered useless. Hence the birth of abortion-on-demand and fertility treatments. Children are not considered priceless for their own sake, they now considered commodities that either increase or decrease our happiness and are treated as such.
