Default Can anyone help

I have just quit my job due to getting an uncashable paycheck. Things have been bad there for a very long time. I am 54 and it is not likely I can get another job. I have been trying for years. Now I am also trying to start/build my own bookkeeping business, but not having much luck. I have 13 years until I can retire. What am I supposed to do? I am currently living with my 83 year old mother because I cannot afford rent or house payment - full time was cut to part time. I may or may not be able to get unemployment for about 5 months. After that? I won't survive living in my car. I will stir crazy in minutes and starving is a hard way to go. Praying to die before things got to this point has not worked either. Now what?
I will sign up for temp work but not sure how that is doing in this economy. If people aren't hiring or they paying for temp help? Any interviews I have had in the last 6 years have gone nowhere. They just are not hiring people over 50 anymore, if there is even anything to apply to. I am even trying to stay at part time, I just need 3, 4 or 5 days a week as long my mother is alive and I can stay in this house.
It has never taken me more than 1 year at most to get another job in the past. Don't know how to handle all this.
(if anyone knows of anybody in the St Louis\Metro East area that wants to outsource their bookkeeping have them contact me through my web site jjbookhelp.com)
