Get rid of the rating system?
Practically speaking, does the rating system for threads serve any useful purpose?
I know that, theoretically, it could be used to signal when a discussion is useful or terrible. But it seems rarely used. And when it is used, it seems mainly by persons who have started a thread and then immediately give it five stars, before anyone has replied.
Getting rid of the rating system isn't any big deal and certainly doesn't hurt. I just don't think it helps us pick out good or useful threads. And given that a spammer recently covered an entire forum page of threads with one star ratings (which seem to be permanent) perhaps the rating system will become even less useful in the future.
So should the rating system be discontinued?

There is a rating system?I've never noticed and frankly now that I know, I still will just ignore it.

Maybe we need a poll on how many use the rating system. I have never rated anything and seldom notice the ratings of threads I visit.
